Updated: Aug 11, 2020

SHURA

@shura

Born as Alexndra Lilah Denton, Shura is an English singer, song-writer who gained her fame with the song “Touch” attracting 32M viewers.

She is an advocate of everything LGBT which is evident in all her music videos. Her other songs “2Shy” and “What’s It Gonna Be?” have also reached more than a million views.

DODIE CLARK

@doddleoddle

Another English artist, Dodie is a much familiar face in the YouTube community. She rose to fame through her creatively written lyrics and self composed songs in the warmth of her home.

She is a proud Bisexual and most of her songs and music videos have that as an underlying plot. Dodie has had composed and sung at least 70 songs as of now including collaborations with other YouTuers.

Her song “Sick of Losing Soulmates” has a view count of 10M. “She” is a personal favourite as it involves being in an unrequited love with a girl and yet longing for her from afar.

ALLY HILLS

@allyhills

Growing up gay without much LGBT exposure is difficult itself, that’s when you would go on a LGBT content hunt, preferably on YouTube.

Ally Hills is an icon for the late gay-bloomers. Her song “How To Know If A Girl Is A Lesbian” (yeah, not an award-winning title) has reached 13M questioning ears.

This song could probably be a mockery to the stereotypes that is attached to lesbians or be true, we’ll never know.

GIRL IN RED

@girlinred

Discovered only in 2019, Marie Ulven Ringheim or as popularly known, the “Girl In Red”, topped her artistic feat with her track “we fell in love in october” amounting to 11M views on YouTube. Her other popularly heard songs are “girls” and “i wanna be your girlfriend”, which are melodiously tasteful.

KEARA GRAVES

@kearagraves

Another YouTube artist popularly known to tweak the lyrics of other celebrities and narrate the story on a queer context.

Her most famous work includes the remake of Ariana Grande’s “Break Up With Your Girlfriend” titled “break up with your boyfriend, i’m bored” and Billie Eilish’s “wish you were gay” into “wish you were gay (but actually GAY)” attracted more than 4M viewers in total. Keara also writes her own songs and collaborates with other YouTube artists.

MARINA LIN

@marinaalin

If you’ve watched Keara, Marina Lin has made several appearances in her channel. Marina Lin also belongs to the realm of YouTubers where she pens down some of the most inexplicable feelings one could ever feel and knits them into short length songs.

Marina could literally write about anything and that would end up being a song you’d want to binge listen to.

Her “what it feels like to be led on” is an absolute favourite; the lines go “It’s okay that you’re confused, my heart is used to being used. Take my heart and run away. They never ever really stay, anyway.”

ZOLITA

@zolita

Much like electropop artist Shura, Zolita too has made a name under the alternative pop and electropop genres.

Her music videos exude a magic filled transcendental experience for her viewers. The queer element is always strongly present regardless of the studio set-ups.

Her song “Come Home With Me” went viral amounting to 1.2M views on her YouTube chanel.

HAYLEY KIYOKO

@hayleykiyoko

Another favourite queer female artist in the list, the one and only Lesbian Jesus - Hayley Kiyoko. Her “Girls Like Girls” broke the internet winding in 117M views on the music video.

She doesn’t stop there, Kiyoko comes out with breathtakingly written songs crafted to soothe the gay souls every year!

KING PRINCESS

@kingprincess69

Saving the best for the last on an intimate note, Mikaela Mullaney Straus or King Princess became relevant and a precious gem to the queer community with her debut songs “1950”, “Talia”, and “Pussy Is God”.

Despite the view counts, she and the artists mentioned above still need a bigger platform to be heard and be a loder voice for the queer members.

King Princess is unapologetically confident of her sexuality at such a young age.

It is truly inspiring what she and other queer artists are able to do and do so for the right cause.

These are just a handful names from the sea of queer artists that are on the rise keeping in mind of the aesthetics alongside heart touching lyrics. Do stay tuned as they achieve to shine on their stages and make the queer community ever so proud.
